The Secretary/Treasurer position of the Mid Jersey Association of REALTORS® (MJAR) will be available for the year 2027. If you wish to be considered by the MJAR Nominating Committee, submit the Application for 2027 Secretary/Treasurer Position below by 5pm on August 1, 2026. The following are the Role of the Secretary/Treasurer, Director Responsibilities, Date of Candidate Interviews and Secretary/Treasurer Candidate Requirements.

ROLE OF THE SECRETARY/TREASURER
• Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Committee
• Keep up to date on industry trends and share them with the Board.
• Ensures the result of the votes at Directors meetings are recorded and reported in the minutes of the meeting with the assistance of the Chief Executive Officer.
• Monitors the accuracy and timely distribution of meeting minutes
• The custodian of funds of MJAR.
• Authorized signatory to sign MJAR checks.
• Monitor the financial operations of the Association.
• Serves as Chairperson or Co-Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Committee.
• Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to continually review the manner in which MJAR’s finances are handled.
• Familiarize himself/herself with members and recommend to the President and President-Elect individuals for appointments to MJAR committees.
• Advise CEO of planned vacations and extended absences where Association duties could not be fulfilled.
• Present a budget report, with staff assistance, for the previous period at Board of Directors meeting.
• Review and present the accountant’s quarterly financial statements to the Board of Directors for acceptance.
• Be thoroughly and completely prepared before each meeting. Read and understand the information given and exercise care to receive clarification before the meeting, if needed.
• When serving as Secretary/Treasurer of MJAR, a Secretary/Treasurer’s fiduciary duty is with MJAR, not with their company or franchise.
• Seek input from REALTOR® members.
• Seek guidance from Past Presidents.
• Performs such duties as may be delegated to him/her by the President and as identified in the bylaws.
• Attends and participates in all Board and Association meetings and functions.
• Attends MJAR committee meetings, as needed, in order to become better informed as to the workings of the Association.
• Encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) during term as Secretary/Treasurer.
• Complete the REALTORS® Excelling in Association Leadership (REAL) course available through NAR’s Center for REALTOR® Development prior to their Installation (December 3, 2026).
• Option to attend NAR Legislative Meetings, NAR Annual Conference and NJ REALTORS Triple Play Convention.
• Attend one day NJ REALTORS Leadership Seminar.

DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Govern, develop and set a course for the future of the association
• Determine and advance the organization’s mission and purposes
• Attend the MJAR Board of Directors meetings - usually six (6) per year and usually held on the third Wednesday of January, March, May, August, September, and November
• Determine, monitor and enhance programs and services
• Ensure adequate resources
• Promote products and services and provide information to the real estate community at large
• Promote the organization’s image
• Support the Chief Executive Officer and assess performance periodically
• Consider an investment in RPAC and attend an MJAR RPAC fundraising event annually
• Attend or support an MJAR Community Service event annually
• Attend the Annual Installation of Officers and Directors
• Attend the Annual Meeting and Election
• Participate in MJAR activities, events and committee programs throughout the year and encourage other members to as well

DATE OF CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS:
Any eligible member who submits an application will be offered an interview for the open positions on the MJAR Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee has tentatively scheduled candidates interviews on Monday, August 17, 2026 and Tuesday, August 18, 2026 between 10:00am-4:00pm – dates and times subject to change.

SECRETARY/TREASURER CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidate must hold a valid New Jersey Real Estate License with the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.
  • Candidate must have held REALTOR® membership with MJAR (or its predecessor entities) for at least three (3) years.
  • Candidate must have served as an officer and/or member of the Board of Directors for at least one (1) year.
  • Candidate shall have no ethics violations with any Association of REALTORS® to be eligible.
  • All candidates must complete the following prior to the first Board of Directors meeting, if elected to office:
    1. At Home With Diversity course
    2. Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing course
    3. Fair Haven
  • Candidate is required to complete the REALTORS® Excelling in Association Leadership (REAL) available through NAR’s Center for REALTOR® Development prior to their Installation (December 3, 2026), if elected to office.
  • Candidate must have served on the MJAR Budget and Finance Committee or alternately the state REALTOR® association for at least one (1) year or, alternatively, submit proof of financial budgeting experience or background.
