The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) deadline to complete your triannual Code of Ethics requirement is December 31, 2024. All REALTOR® members must complete at least 2.5 hours of Ethics education every three years. See below to view opportunities to complete your NAR Code of Ethics requirement.

New Requirement from NAR: Starting in 2025, REALTOR® members will be required to complete a minimum of 2 hours of Fair Housing training every three years. This new requirement will coincide with the triennial ethics requirement.

Check your NAR Code of Ethics status! If you’ve completed your ethics course, but it is not showing on NAR’s website, send your certificate of completion to info@core-realtors.com or fax to 908-725-2466 to update your record.

NJ CE Requirements for License Renewal

To view a list of frequently asked CE questions, click here

All real estate licensees are required to renew their licenses every two years. Agents are urged to talk with their brokers regarding submitting the renewal fee to the NJ Real Estate Commission. Licensees must also complete the Qualifying Questionnaire prior to renewing their license. The current cycle began on July 1, 2023 and ends on June 30, 2025.

CE Requirements

To qualify for license renewal or reinstatement, every individual renewing their license as a broker of record, broker-salesperson, or salesperson must satisfy the below CE requirements (those renewing as referral agents do not need CE):

The New Jersey Real Estate Commission mandates that all real estate licensees complete CE every two years to maintain their licenses.

  • You must complete 12 continuing education credit hour
  • Two hours must be completed in Ethics (Core) Topic Area
  • One hour must be completed in the Fair Housing (Core) Topic Area
  • Six hours must be completed in Core Topic Area
  • The six remaining hours may be completed in Core or Elective topics

You can check your CE status via the PSI Online CE Tracking System.

Important dates for license renewal:

  • April 30, 2025 : CE must be completed to avoid a $200 late fee from the NJ Real Estate Commission
  • May 1 – June 30, 2025: Licensees may submit CE credits, but are subject to a $200 late fee
  • If you obtain your license after July 1, 2024, you are not required to complete CE until the next cycle ending June 30, 2027
CE Waivers

Waivers from CE requirements may be granted either in whole or in part for the following:

  • Incapacitating illness
  • Active military duty
  • Emergency
  • Other substantial/unavoidable hardship (not including financial hardship, business conflicts, or personal obligations)

Licensees granted a waiver from CE requirements (except for active duty military service), will have to make up the waived core course(s) missed in the next license term in addition to all of the credits required for that license term as a condition of license renewal for the license term following when the waiver was issued. (For example, if six core credits were waived, a licensee must complete 18 credits in the next license term.) See N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.5(f).

Any waived elective courses will not have to be completed by a real estate licensee. See N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.5(g).
